Playing cards have been around for a long time. In fact, they’ve been with us since the early 1200s. For centuries now, playing cards have been a popular form of entertainment. Many people play them for fun and others even take it seriously, sometimes betting money on the game. One of the oldest and most famous games is poker. Poker was developed in France in the 17th century, at a time when cards were very popular among Europeans because they could be easily smuggled into church to use during services. Poker was originally called "Poque" which later changed to "Pochen" and finally became poker. This game is extremely popular all over the world today. Poker is a game that uses five cards down the center of the table, three on each side of the dealer’s hand. Each player is dealt two cards. These cards are then placed face down in front of them. The player has five cards face up in front of them (4-card hand). They must act like they have only three (4-card hand) to make sure they can win or lose money. This allows for all players to play more evenly and it makes it easier for the players to bluff since they cannot tell if someone has a full house or not until after their next card draw (when they will have their final 4-card hand). The next card to be dealt may be any card, and it is placed face up in front of the player. After the player draws their cards , they put them up for all to see. If a player has a hand where they have two cards of one rank and one card of another rank, they must state this; if not, then their hand is assumed to be face down (full house). Players then exchange money into the pot (this is called "raising") which begins the game. The money goes directly into a pot unless it’s a double raise (where you get an additional amount of money). Then the dealer (dealer is the player who asked to play first) has the first draw. They then put one card face down next to their previous card, and then everyone has a chance to act like they have only three cards (full house). If this is the case, then the dealer must show their three cards (4-card hand) because they can see all other players’ four cards (3-card hand). If all players have their hands revealed, this is called "the showdown" where all players reveal their 4-card hands for everyone else to see. The player with the best 4-card hand wins money from all other players. cfa1e77820
